PRE-SCHOOL IN BALIBO

Xanadu has raised the funds of $20,000.00 which enabled construction of the pre-school, daily education and feeding of the children, and health care for 2-5 year olds and their families. This made such a difference in the lives of these village families.

The project has not ended with the completion of the building – we are organizing scholarships for the 3-7 year olds in the area whose parents cannot afford to pay school fees of $4.00 per month.  We are also giving the primary school some help – the pre-school building is on the primary school grounds. We met with the headmaster of the primary school, and, our investigation and conversations with them shows a serious lack of basic needs for the primary school.  They have limited exercise books, pens, and basic teaching materials, and the headmaster asked for help in sponsoring a young teacher who cannot afford teacher training, comes to the school every day to volunteer in helping with the younger children.  And, he asked for a non-electric typewriter so that he can prepare lessons and reports.  Basic things needed.  He is very good at his work, and just needs some help for the school’s daily operation.  So, we are continuing with help for the primary school, and in financing and upgrade for the mission, so that it can be used as a tourist stopover point for paying travellers.  The money earned from this will help pay ongoing costs for the pre-school.

This is the next phase in the Balibo project work, we have not stopped fundraising at the completion of the building, but plan to help with ongoing educational needs for the Balibo area.
